Implementation of the National Action Plan for the prevention of cervical cancer in the country

On December 18, 2020, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population of the Republic of Tajikistan (MOHSP RT), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), and the Tajik Family Planning Association held a round table to discuss the implementation of the recently developed National Action Plan for the Prevention of Cervical Cancer in the country.
Participants of the event were representatives of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Tajikistan, national health centers, centers of oncology, colposcopists and gynecological oncologists from national centers and clinics. In the event was highlighted that cervical cancer is the fourth most common cancer in women worldwide, accounting for 570,000 new cases and 311,000 deaths in 2018, with 90% of these deaths being low- and middle-income countries. In the Republic of Tajikistan with the support of WHO and the UNFPA office in 2012, 2016, 2018 an analysis of the situation and assessment needs for the prevention of cervical cancer was carried out by international experts. In their recommendations, they noted the need to develop an action plan for the prevention of cervical cancer at the first stage with the determination of the estimated cost of the plan. Based on the above, demonstrating the commitment to WHO Global Strategy and accelerating the elimination of cervical cancer, with the financial support of UNFPA and the technical support of the Tajik Family Planning Association and experts of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Republic of Tajikistan.  This "Action Plan for the prevention, early diagnosis, treatment and palliative care of cervical cancer in the Republic of Tajikistan for 2021-2030" was developed by the working group of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Republic of Tajikistan, created by order of the Minister of Health and Social Protection of the Population of the Republic of Tajikistan No. 926 dated 23.11.2020 with technical support UNFPA office in the Republic of Tajikistan.
