Gender equality campaigns: ensuring health, rights and well-being of girls and women from remote areas

Campaigns on gender equality were organized for population of remote areas of the country. The activities were held on May 17-18 in Rasht and Nurobod districts, on May 23-24 in Muminabad and Khovaling districts of Khatlon region and on June 6-7 in Istaravshan and Isfara cities of Sughd region. Professional consultations on gender and rights, and gynecologic issues were provided for the population of adjacent jamoats in the course of campaigns.
The activities were aimed at enhancement of legal literacy and awareness of the girls and women from the rural areas. Gender issues, such as gender-based violence in family and society, gender equality in Islam, along with regulatory and legal framework addressing gender-based violence in Tajikistan, HIV prevention, family planning, antenatal care, and other topics were discussed with the campaigns’ participants. In total, over 1800 women and girls were counselled. Furthermore, women got gynecological examination. Visual screening of women was carried out for the cervical cancer prevention purposes, and those in need of further examination and treatment were given referrals to specialists. It is to be noted that the campaigns were organized with the financial support from UNFPA.
